Telangana High Court Threatens Army, Orders Status Quo and Rebukes HYDRAA

The court has taken the rare step of preparing military protection to enforce its orders and has demanded explanations from agency leaders to uphold rule of law.

Overview

  • The High Court ordered maintenance of status quo on disputed Bahadurguda structures and posted related hearings to August 11 after petitioners said officials had entered and damaged patta lands.
  • In a contempt hearing over a 40‑acre Lothkunta parcel the court on July 23 directed Army deployment to secure the site but kept that direction in abeyance after the Advocate General assured the bench the State would file an affidavit.
  • On July 24 the court sharply criticized HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, said he had become ‘a law unto himself,’ and directed him to file an affidavit that includes an apology and explanation for entering the contested property.
  • Petitioners — including 85 farmers and private firms such as Shanta Sriram Constructions and Mustang Infra — allege HYDRAA, revenue officials and police entered lands on July 18, demolished structures, detained people, and seek probes and compensation.
  • The disputes turn on conflicting records — petitioners point to patta and mutation entries while HYDRAA cites older government registers and cantonment classifications — and the court’s moves signal stronger judicial enforcement of interim possession while final title is litigated.
