Overview
- Andrew Wason, 19, received compulsion and restriction orders at the High Court in Glasgow that mandate detention in a secure psychiatric hospital without a set release date.
- He pleaded guilty on April 29 to attempted murder for pushing 20-year-old Sophie Scott onto the tracks at Hyndland Station on April 20 last year.
- Scott scrambled clear of the oncoming train as the driver initiated emergency braking, and a bystander pursued Wason back to nearby Gartnavel Hospital to alert police.
- Psychiatrist Dr Geraldine Scullin testified that Wason has spent about 18 months at the State Hospital, continues to exhibit significant psychotic symptoms, and appears treatment-resistant.
- Judge Lord Matthews called the impact on Scott and the train driver “horrible” and urged Wason to engage with care, noting reports concluded his illness compelled the act despite his awareness it was wrong.
