High Court Demands Explanations for BFI’s Exclusions Ahead of August 21 Boxing Elections

The court fixed an August 18 hearing for petitions, keeping the August 21 polls on track to meet World Boxing’s deadline.

Overview

  • The Delhi High Court on August 7 issued notices to the BFI interim panel, Indian Olympic Association and sports ministry and scheduled a hearing for August 18.
  • Four state associations—Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh—have filed petitions challenging the amendments that disqualify unelected members and public officeholders.

  • Nominations for the August 21 polls closed on August 4 under Justice Rajesh Tandon as returning officer, with the vote set to comply with World Boxing’s August 31 deadline.
