HHS Launches Cellphone Radiation Study as FDA Pulls Old Safety Webpages

The review aims to pinpoint research gaps on newer wireless technologies.

Overview

  • HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said the study will evaluate electromagnetic radiation research to identify gaps in knowledge, including for emerging technologies.
  • Nixon said the FDA removed webpages with older conclusions while the department undertakes the review.
  • The initiative was directed by President Trump's Make America Healthy Again Commission in its strategy report.
  • Some FDA and CDC webpages still state there is no credible evidence that cellphone radiation causes health problems, and the National Cancer Institute says current evidence suggests cellphone use does not cause brain or other cancers in humans.
  • HHS previously reported that 22 states restricted cellphone use in schools under the MAHA movement, and The Wall Street Journal first reported the new study.
