Overview

  • HeyYa Rentals introduced five street-legal electric carts in downtown Victoria on May 12, 2025, with an expansion to 15 carts planned by the end of May.
  • The Transport Canada-approved carts can operate on streets with speed limits of 50 km/h or lower in Victoria, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, and parts of Saanich.
  • The vehicles, accommodating four to eight passengers, feature open sides for enhanced sightseeing and are available for hourly rentals starting at two hours.
  • Renters must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and the carts are insured with optional collision damage waivers and standard safety features.
  • Victoria Councillor Dave Thompson highlighted the carts’ zero-emission design as aligning with the city’s transportation priorities and their potential as a last-mile solution for visitors.
