Overview

  • The third funding phase runs from 2025 to 2029 and began on July 1, backing about 40 projects across the state.
  • For 2025 the state is providing €8.8 million with an additional €2.2 million from the federal government, and funding also covers roughly 30 specialist offices, 29 local democracy partnerships and the Democracy Center Hesse.
  • The Interior Ministry says projects will pursue creative, technology-enabled approaches that include the use of artificial intelligence.
  • Poseck said right-wing extremism remains the greatest danger to democracy, while left-wing extremism also concerns authorities.
  • No project sponsor has yet been secured for a statewide unit focused on preventing left-wing extremism with an emphasis on Israel-related antisemitism, and the ministry renewed its call for applicants.
