Overview
- The state announced Monday that it will close the Notunterkunft (NUK) in Alsfeld on 30 September 2026 and the EAEH site in Bad Arolsen on 31 December 2026.
- Hesse’s integration ministry says eight remaining EAEH sites now house 2,671 people while the network has more than 9,113 places available, excluding Alsfeld.
- Light‑construction halls used as temporary housing will be dismantled and freed areas kept clear where possible, and people at closing sites will be moved to other EAEH locations.
- The 2027 budget plan foresees €50 million in asylum‑area savings with about €35 million coming from cuts in the EAEH network, a rationale ministers cited for the downsizing.
- Officials pointed to a steep national drop in asylum registrations — roughly 200,000 in 2024, about 100,000 in 2025 and about 32,700 so far in 2026 — and said arrivals will be closely monitored to restore capacity if needed.
