Overview
- The Hessian Ministry of Education confirmed that the Werte- und Demokratiebildung program for refugee and migrant pupils will continue in the 2025/26 school year with two weekly hours alongside German-language instruction.
- From August 18, teachers can access the WERTvoll-Plattform, a digital portal featuring lesson plans, project ideas, expert contacts and classroom guidance.
- The platform focuses on supporting more than 2,000 intensive language classes attended by around 36,000 students rather than creating separate values lessons for all schools.
- Educators will find an information exchange, networking opportunities, a consultation hotline and professional development offerings to help integrate values education into everyday lessons.
- Kultusminister Armin Schwarz said the initiative seeks to equip children with clear role models and strengthen democratic norms as schools confront rising polarization, harmful social media trends, antisemitism and extremism.
