Herschend Closes Two Georgia Family Entertainment Centers After Palace Acquisition

The Dollywood co-owner says the Georgia sites do not fit its operating model for larger attractions.

Overview

  • Malibu Norcross in Gwinnett County and Mountasia Marietta in Cobb County ended operations on Sept. 28 and are permanently closed.
  • CEO Andrew Wexler said the move reflects that family entertainment centers operate differently than properties the company is structured to support and is not a reflection on staff or service quality.
  • Both Georgia venues were part of the 24 U.S. parks Herschend acquired from Palace Entertainment in May.
  • Reporting indicates Herschend has also sold three previously acquired parks to Lucky Strike Entertainment as it continues to reshape the portfolio.
  • Dollywood in Tennessee remains open, with the company and local outlets countering social media rumors that it would close.
