Hero LNER Worker Named as Police Order Review After Huntingdon Train Stabbings

Police say his actions saved lives, with the case now listed for 1 December at Cambridge Crown Court.

Overview

  • LNER identified customer experience host Samir Zitouni, 48, as the staff member who stepped in to protect passengers and remains critically unwell in hospital, as his family and employer praised his courage.
  • British Transport Police said 11 people were treated in hospital, with six discharged, four in stable condition and one — the LNER staff member — stable but critically unwell.
  • Anthony Williams, 32, has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder over the train attack plus additional offences linked to an alleged incident at Pontoon Dock DLR, and he has been remanded to appear on 1 December.
  • Passenger Stephen Crean described confronting the attacker with his bare hands and sustaining multiple injuries after hearing the threat, “Do you want to die?”, while Scunthorpe United’s Jonathan Gjoshe was treated for non-life-threatening wounds.
  • Cambridgeshire Police commissioned an internal review into events before the attack, including earlier knife reports in Peterborough and at a barbers, and said an IOPC self-referral did not meet the threshold for an investigation.
