Overview

  • The A43 will close between Kreuz Recklinghausen and Herne-Eickel from May 9 at 9 PM to May 12 at 5 AM for demolition of the first of four bridges at Herner Kreuz.
  • A full shutdown of the A42 between Herne-Crange and Herne-Baukau is scheduled from May 16 at 9 PM to May 19 at 5 AM to prepare the Baukau tunnel connection and reconfigure traffic flows.
  • Autobahn Westfalen is leading the multi-phase project to modernize Herner Kreuz, one of Germany's most complex roadwork sites, including widening the A43 to six lanes.
  • Long-distance traffic will be rerouted via the A2 and A40, while local traffic will follow designated detours to minimize disruption.
  • The Baukau tunnel, once completed, will streamline connectivity, enabling drivers from the A43 near Bochum to access the A42 towards Essen and Duisburg.
