Herne Details Mobility Concept and Road Closures for Cranger Kirmes

The city’s new mobility concept features marked pedestrian routes from Wanne-Eickel station, guarded bicycle parking, e-bike chargers, a 260-space P+R lot with shuttle service, timed street closures, priority bus lanes.

Overview

  • The 588th Cranger Kirmes runs July 31–August 10 in Herne with over four million visitors expected.
  • On July 24 Stadt Herne introduced marked walkways, five guarded bike stations, e-bike charging points and ten-minute shuttle buses from a new 260-space park-and-ride lot at the A42.
  • Partial closures of Heerstraße and Dorstener Straße begin July 25 with timed evening shutdowns of Hertener Straße during the festival and earlier restrictions on Family Day.
  • Local residents and permit holders retain access during closures while dedicated bus lanes and designated routes aim to keep traffic flowing.
  • The long-running “Fight Club” boxing tent will be absent after its new owner opted out, but site manager Alexander Neumann confirms a replacement attraction is coming soon.
