Herdman leaves Canada men's team to become Toronto FC head coach

John Herdman is leaving his role as coach of Canada's men's national team to become the new head coach of Toronto FC starting October 1.
Herdman previously coached the Canada women's team and helped the men's team qualify for the 2022 World Cup, their first since 1986.
Toronto FC fired former coach Bob Bradley in June and is currently last in the Eastern Conference standings.
Herdman expressed a desire to work in a professional club environment and have more time with players.
Mauro Biello has been named interim coach of the men's national team as Canada searches for Herdman's replacement.
