Herbstreit Defends Florida State's Playoff Exclusion Amid Backlash

Florida State, despite an undefeated season and winning the ACC, was left out of the College Football Playoff due to quarterback Jordan Travis' injury.
ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit defended the decision, stating that Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Washington, Oregon, and Georgia were better teams.
Herbstreit faced backlash from Florida State fans, to which he responded by calling them a 'despicable lunatic fringe' and reminding them of a similar situation in 2000 when Florida State was chosen over Miami for the BCS Championship.
Herbstreit reaffirmed his respect for the Florida State program and Coach Mike Norvell, but maintained that his job is to give his opinion on who the best 4 teams are.
Florida State will face Georgia in the Orange Bowl on December 30.
