Henri Lenferink Named Acting Mayor of Amersfoort as Bolsius Takes Medical Leave

The King's Commissioner in Utrecht appointed the former Leiden leader after consulting council faction chiefs.

Overview

  • Lenferink will hold the role until Lucas Bolsius has recovered sufficiently to resume his duties, according to the municipal statement.
  • Bolsius is expected to be out at least through Christmas as he recovers from a severe lung infection contracted in the summer.
  • Under Dutch procedure the King's Commissioner appoints mayors, and Hans Oosters made the designation following talks with party leaders in the council.
  • Lenferink previously served as mayor of Leiden from 2003 to 2023 and later as acting King's Commissioner in Gelderland.
  • Last week the city withdrew plans for two asylum seeker centres due to inadequate consultation, and officials said the move was unrelated to threats made over the proposals.
