Henk Lategan Extends Lead with Stage 8 Victory at Dakar Rally

The South African driver overcame challenging navigation and a speeding penalty to solidify his position atop the standings in Saudi Arabia.

Henk Lategan, driving for Toyota, won the 487-kilometer Stage 8 from Al Duwadimi to Riyadh, extending his overall lead to nearly six minutes over Yazeed Al-Rajhi.
Despite a two-minute speeding penalty, Lategan finished nearly two minutes ahead of teammate Guy Botterill, with Mathieu Serradori taking third place in the stage.
Qatar's Nasser Al-Attiyah, a five-time Dakar champion, struggled with navigation and finished over 12 minutes behind Lategan, dropping to fourth overall, 34 minutes off the lead.
In the motorcycle category, Luciano Benavides claimed the stage win after being credited for time spent assisting injured rider Pablo Quintanilla, who withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
Australian rider Daniel Sanders retained his overall lead in the motorcycle standings, holding an 11-minute advantage with four stages remaining.
