Hemant Soren to Be Sworn in as Jharkhand Chief Minister for Second Term

The JMM-led INDIA bloc secured a decisive majority in the state assembly elections, with Soren set to take the oath on November 28.

  • Hemant Soren, leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has been unanimously elected as the legislature party leader of the INDIA bloc in Jharkhand.
  • The JMM-led alliance, including Congress, RJD, and CPI (ML), won 56 out of 81 seats in the state assembly, surpassing the majority mark of 41.
  • Soren met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on November 24, tendered his resignation as acting chief minister, and staked his claim to form the new government.
  • The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for November 28 at Morabadi Ground, with discussions ongoing about the composition of the new cabinet.
  • The opposition BJP-led NDA secured only 24 seats, with the JMM emerging as the largest party with 34 seats in the assembly.
