Overview

  • About 54% of elders associate ageing with negative feelings, with 47% citing loneliness as their most common emotion.
  • Only 41% of seniors own smartphones and just 13% use computers or the internet, while two-thirds find digital tools confusing.
  • Though 66% of elders and 61% of youth report daily face-to-face interactions, many elders say they are not included in family decision-making or meaningful engagement.
  • Intergenerational co-residence remains strong, with 88% of youth expecting to live with family in old age and 83% of elders already doing so or planning to.
  • HelpAge India recommends age-sensitisation curricula in schools, youth-led digital buddy programmes, and community support centres to bridge emotional and technological gaps.
