Hell's Kitchen Rental Scam Suspect Surrenders, Faces 14 Grand Larceny Counts

Victims say they paid deposits after tours, trusting a Facebook-listed lease for the same Hell’s Kitchen unit.

Overview

  • Nicholas Fuelling, 43, turned himself in at the NYPD’s 18th Precinct on Wednesday, police said.
  • Fuelling was booked on 14 counts of grand larceny tied to an alleged scheme involving a $3,200-a-month two-bedroom at 334 W. 47th St.
  • Prospective renters, including Miguel Márchese, say they toured the apartment, signed DocuSign paperwork and paid thousands such as $6,400 for rent and deposit.
  • Victims discovered the listing remained active and others had also paid, formed a “We’ve Been Scammed” group chat, and prompted NYPD wanted flyers.
  • Council Member Erik Bottcher urged affected renters to file reports, as attempts to recover money through banks or Cash App have largely failed.
