Hello Kitty Themed Train Starts Running on Lima’s Line 1

The Sanrio campaign integrates characters into daily commutes to raise brand visibility among the city’s large metro ridership.

Overview

  • A six-car unit called “El Tren de la Amistad” entered regular service on Line 1, beginning passenger runs on September 15 and will remain on the route for about one month.
  • The train is fully decorated inside and out with Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pompompurin and Kuromi and carries themed messages about friendship and spring.
  • Sanrio is running the activation in Peru with local representative The Business Hub Group and has paired the train with station activations at high-traffic stops.
  • A limited run of 50,000 collectible Line 1 travel cards bearing Hello Kitty and Friends designs is scheduled to go on sale at Line 1 stations toward the end of September.
  • The initiative leverages Line 1’s reach—more than 600,000 daily riders—and extends Sanrio’s existing presence in Peru across fashion, stationery and collectibles into public transit spaces.
