Heizspiegel 2025: German Heating Bills Rise Again as Gas and Pellets Jump

Co2online warns of long-term cost pressure from rising CO2 prices.

Overview

  • Average 70 m² flat: gas +15% to about €1,180; pellets +20% to €740; oil +3% to €1,055; district heat +2% to €1,245; heat pumps +5% to €715.
  • Co2online attributes the 2025 rebound to higher energy prices and a colder start to the year after declines in 2024.
  • Operating a heat pump is now the lowest-cost option on average, based on data from roughly 90,000 buildings.
  • Nine in ten households could cut bills by about €400 a year through thermostat settings, proper ventilation, lower hot water use and low-cost technical upgrades.
  • Over the next two decades, costs for gas and oil could roughly triple, with pellets and district heat roughly doubling, as CO2 pricing rises and gas-network fees increase with fewer customers.
