Engelhorn Criticizes Wealth Inequality, Sets Up Citizen Group for Redistribution

Marlene Engelhorn, an Austrian-German heiress, has announced her intention to give away her $27.4 million fortune that she inherited from her family, who owns the chemical giant BASF.
Engelhorn is a co-founder of Tax Me Now, a collective of wealthy individuals from German-speaking countries, which was established in 2021 to address extreme wealth inequality resulting from tax policies.
She has criticized the Austrian government for failing to ensure wealth is distributed equitably in society, and has been advocating for a more equitable tax system in Austria for years.
Engelhorn has set up a citizens group, the Good Council for Redistribution, to decide how her fortune should be distributed.
It is unclear how much of her fortune Engelhorn will retain after giving away $27.4 million.
