HeidiFest Moves From ProSieben to RTL

ProSieben withdrew from live transmission after poor 2025 TV ratings, handing the Oktoberfest-format to RTL for a larger primetime presentation on linear TV plus RTL+.

Overview

  • ProSieben confirmed on August 7 that it will not provide a live broadcast of HeidiFest in 2026 and will instead cover Oktoberfest in its magazine shows after the 2025 edition underperformed in the 14–49 demo.
  • RTL announced on August 8 that it has acquired the HeidiFest and will air the second edition on 17 September 2026 on both RTL and the streaming service RTL+ with production by RTL Studios.
  • The 2025 HeidiFest generated strong social-media buzz and celebrity attendance but drew criticism for production choices such as playback performances and achieved only modest linear ratings, a factor cited by ProSieben in ending its live role.
  • RTL framed the move as an upgrade, promising a 'bigger, louder' televised spectacle intended to translate viral online attention into higher linear and streaming viewership, while Heidi Klum remains linked to ProSieben through Germany’s Next Topmodel.
  • The Hofbräuhaus in Munich appears booked for the traditional pre-Wiesn date, suggesting the event will return at the same venue, and industry watchers will now watch whether RTL’s dual broadcast strategy improves TV ratings and advertiser returns.
