Overview
- Nova Scotia Power reported more than 130,000 customers without electricity as of 8:15 a.m., after 15–25 cm of heavy snow fell across much of the province with near 30 cm in higher terrain.
- RCMP responded to multiple collisions on Highway 104 in Cumberland County and Highway 102 in Colchester County, with Highway 102 southbound at Exit 10 closed due to a tractor trailer blocking the roadway.
- Halifax Regional Police closed Highway 118 outbound because several large trucks blocked the highway, diverting traffic to Highway 107 toward Waverley Road and cautioning of a lengthy closure toward Fall River and the airport.
- All public schools shut for the day, while university and college campuses largely closed or delayed openings, including St. Francis Xavier to 11 a.m. and Acadia to 1 p.m.
- Nova Scotia Power said hundreds of workers are restoring service but access is slowed by snow clearing and unsafe roads, as HRM runs transit on snow plans with delays and moves Monday solid-waste pickup to Saturday, Jan. 24.
