  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy snowfall and rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir on February 27 and 28.
  • Higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, including Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, have received up to 1.5 feet of snowfall, with Manali recording 20 cm of snow.
  • Jammu & Kashmir has seen its first significant precipitation since October, with upper areas like Gulmarg receiving up to 15 inches of snow, helping reduce a 70% precipitation deficit.
  • The adverse weather is expected to disrupt transportation, with warnings issued for key passes and roads, including the Srinagar-Jammu highway and Mughal Road.
  • A fresh Western Disturbance is predicted to bring additional rain and snow to northwest India starting March 2, potentially extending the current weather conditions.
