Severe precipitation caused by a western disturbance has led to blocked highways, power outages, and avalanche threats across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir.

  • Himachal Pradesh has reported 583 blocked roads, including five national highways, along with disrupted power and water supply due to heavy snowfall and landslides.
  • In Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, an avalanche trapped 57 workers, with 32 rescued so far and efforts ongoing to save the remaining individuals.
  • Jammu and Kashmir experienced significant snowfall, leading to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Ladakh highways, as well as avalanche warnings in high-altitude areas.
  • Authorities in Himachal Pradesh have issued public advisories, warning residents and tourists to avoid rivers, streams, and avalanche-prone areas for safety.
  • The India Meteorological Department predicts continued light to moderate snowfall and rainfall in affected regions through March 4, with a new western disturbance expected to bring additional precipitation starting March 2.
