Heavy Snow and Gusting Winds Extend Closure of Paso Cristo Redentor

Authorities have delayed any reopening until forecasts predict safer mountain conditions.

Overview

  • The Paso Cristo Redentor has been closed preventively since July 31 with no reopening date set.
  • The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional warns of 40 to 90 centimeters of snow accumulation and high winds in the Mendoza and San Juan cordilleras.
  • Vialidad Nacional’s Zona Mendoza crews are using graders and snowplows to clear accumulated snow on Route 7.
  • Gendarmería Nacional reported temperatures as low as –8°C at Puente del Inca and –9°C in Las Cuevas.
  • The nearby Paso Pehuenche remains open but requires caution due to wet pavement and repair work on Route 145.
