Heavy Rains Flood Parts of Finistère, Prompting 230+ Firefighter Interventions

Saturated ground after Storm Goretti turned a short-lived deluge into rapid flooding.

Overview

  • Météo-France placed the department under an orange rain–flood alert Thursday, forecasting around 40 mm of rain with local peaks of 60–70 mm.
  • Fire and rescue services reported more than 230 interventions across Finistère during the episode.
  • In Plougonvelin, water rose to about 60 cm in places, eight homes were affected, four people were evacuated, and power was cut to roughly 200 households for safety as crews worked to restore service.
  • Flooding and difficult travel were reported in several communes, including a flooded town center in Crozon, impassable routes around Plousané, and a submerged bridge that forced a road closure in Pencran.
  • Morlaix’s mayor said the town was not considered at risk of inundation, and forecasts indicated conditions would ease by late afternoon.
