Overview

• A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is driving a west-northwest monsoon surge that is energizing rains over Rajasthan and parts of the northwest.
• Downpours disrupted transport in Rajasthan, with landslides near Dara halting nine trains on the Kota–Mumbai route and NH-52 traffic suspended due to waterlogging.
• Jaipur’s weather office placed Banswara and Pratapgarh under an orange alert and issued yellow alerts for several districts, with heavy to very heavy rain likely in Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer and Bharatpur through September 5.
• Rainfall is expected to pick up in sections of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions from September 5 to 7, as Dausa reported 177 mm in 24 hours.
• IMD posted red alerts for Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana, and police and SDRF shifted residents from low-lying areas in Jammu after rivers briefly rose above alert levels.
