Overview

  • Temperatures across England are forecast to reach up to 34 °C on Saturday before a cold front triggers a sharp cooldown.
  • The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning from 3 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday for northern and western regions, cautioning against heavy rain, lightning, hail and gusty winds.
  • The amber heat-health alert covering all of England remains in force until Monday morning, urging vulnerable people to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exposure.
  • The National Weather Service has placed Chicago and much of the U.S. Midwest under extreme heat warnings from Saturday through Monday, with heat indices topping 100 °F.
  • Scientists say human-driven climate change has made such extreme heat up to 100 times more likely, coinciding with a 717% surge in wildfire incidents across England and Wales this year.
