Heathrow Imposes Two-Bag Carry-On Limit as UK Maintains 100ml Liquid Cap

The nationwide CT scanner rollout set for June 2025 has yet to lift the UK’s liquid restrictions at Heathrow.

Overview

  • Heathrow requires passengers to take no more than two carry-on items through security, counting handbags and laptop bags as individual pieces.
  • The UK government’s 100ml limit on liquids, gels, and aerosols remains in force, and all containers must fit within a single clear plastic bag roughly 20cm by 20cm.
  • CT scanners at airports such as Gatwick now permit liquids and electronics to stay in hand luggage; Heathrow’s scanners are pending activation.
  • Hand luggage exceeding 56cm by 45cm by 25cm must be checked in, and electronic devices must power on at screening while e-cigarettes are confined to carry-on bags.
  • Travellers may carry essential medicines and medical equipment in excess of 100ml with proof of prescription and must avoid prohibited items including sharp objects, firearms, frozen liquids, and toxic substances.
