Overview
- The South African Weather Service has a heat-wave advisory for parts of Chris Hani and Alfred Nzo in the Eastern Cape that runs through Sunday, with a Cradock weather advisory valid until 23:59 on 31 October.
- Very high daytime highs are forecast across the interior with Upington near 39°C, Kimberley and De Aar around 36°C, and Bloemfontein and Klerksdorp about 34°C, increasing heat exposure for outdoor workers and vulnerable residents.
- Extremely high veld-fire danger is active over most of the Northern Cape and is also expected in western Free State and North West, where dry winds and dead vegetation raise the risk of fast-moving wildfires.
- SAWS warns of heat-related health effects such as cramps, fainting and heat stroke and advises people to stay cool, hydrate and limit time in the sun to reduce acute illness and sleep disruption.
- Forecasts for Saturday, 31 October, call for isolated showers and thundershowers in parts of KwaZulu‑Natal, the Free State and North West, which could produce localised storms but will not significantly ease the broader heat and fire risks.
