Health Canada Approves Pfizer's Updated COVID-19 Vaccine

The new Comirnaty vaccine targets the KP.2 Omicron subvariant, replacing the older XBB.1.5-targeted version.

Health Canada has approved Pfizer-BioNTech's updated COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, which targets the KP.2 Omicron subvariant.
The approval follows recent directives to provinces and territories to discard older vaccines to prioritize the new formula for the fall respiratory virus season.
Comirnaty is the third updated COVID-19 vaccine approved this season, alongside Moderna's Spikevax and Novavax's Nuvaxovid.
Both Pfizer and Moderna's updated vaccines are authorized for adults and children six months and older, while Novavax is approved for those 12 and older.
The updated vaccines aim to provide better protection against the most recently circulating variants of the virus.
