Headteacher Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Deputy at South Wales School

Anthony John Felton, headteacher at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School, attacked his deputy, Richard Pyke, on March 5, 2025.
The assault, captured on CCTV, involved Felton delivering multiple blows to Pyke, who sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital shortly after.
Felton appeared via video-link from prison at Swansea Crown Court on April 7, where he pleaded guilty to attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Paul Thomas KC stated that the severity of the offence necessitates a prison sentence, with the length to be determined during sentencing on April 25.
The incident has drawn attention to the issue of violence within educational settings and represents a dramatic fall from grace for a school leader.
