Overview
- On August 6, HDFC Bank issued an advisory after detecting a rise in APK-based fraud disguised as Re-KYC updates, traffic fine notices and tax refund alerts
- Scammers pose as bank or government officials and send fake APK links claiming to be official HDFC apps from third-party stores
- Once installed, the malware grants fraudsters full control of devices to capture OTPs, divert calls and execute unauthorized bank transactions
- HDFC Bank recommends downloading apps only from official stores, installing updated antivirus software and verifying all unsolicited links via its website or support lines
- Customers are urged to report suspicious messages or calls through the Sanchar Saathi portal to help authorities track and block emerging scams
