HDFC Bank Cuts Free Branch Limits, Raises Fees on NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and Cheque Services

This revision shifts transaction costs toward customers to encourage digital banking.

Overview

  • From August 1, HDFC Bank reduced free cash transactions at branches to four per month and halved the free monthly transaction value limit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh per account.
  • Branch NEFT fees now follow four slabs, ranging from Rs 2 for transfers up to Rs 10,000 to Rs 24 for amounts above Rs 2 lakh, with senior citizens receiving a 10% discount.
  • RTGS charges increased to Rs 20 for transactions between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh and Rs 45 for amounts above Rs 5 lakh, and senior citizens pay Rs 18 and Rs 40.50 respectively.
  • ECS/ACH return fees rose to Rs 500 for the first return and Rs 550 for subsequent returns with senior discounts, while cheque-return charges now stand at Rs 500 for the first financial return, Rs 550 thereafter and Rs 50 for technical returns.
  • Balance, interest and address confirmation certificates now incur a Rs 100 fee per instance for regular customers and Rs 90 for senior citizens when requested at branches.
