HD Hyundai, India Move to Deepen Shipbuilding Partnership After Seoul Talks

The outreach highlights India's Maritime Amrit Kaal drive to scale domestic shipbuilding with Korean technology.

Overview

  • HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun met India’s petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Seoul to discuss expanded cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime industries.
  • HD Hyundai presented ship design and construction capabilities along with its smart shipyard operating system to identify concrete areas for collaboration.
  • The two sides said earlier this week they agreed to jointly build naval ships and to take part in the Indian Navy’s amphibious-vessel acquisition project.
  • HD Hyundai said the visiting Indian delegation will tour its Ulsan shipyard on Friday to review facilities and observe production lines.
  • The engagement aligns with India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, a $24 billion plan with an $8 billion initial tranche, and follows a July MOU with state-run Cochin Shipyard on design, procurement, productivity and workforce development.
