Overview

  • The USNS Alan Shepard is a 41,000-ton Lewis and Clark–class dry cargo and ammunition vessel supporting the U.S. Military Sealift Command’s Seventh Fleet.
  • Overhaul work at HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan will start in September and the vessel is due to return to the U.S. Navy in November 2025.
  • The maintenance package includes propeller cleaning, tank inspections and system diagnostics under the MRO contract.
  • The award is the first contract under the $150 billion MASGA framework, which is part of a $350 billion investment package linked to reciprocal tariff reductions.
  • HD Hyundai’s earlier agreements with Huntington Ingalls in April and Edison Chouest Offshore in June laid the groundwork for this bilateral shipbuilding collaboration.
