HC Expert Finds Bhopal Overbridge Bend at 118–119 Degrees as State Moves to Reconsider Blacklist

The report says the structure follows the government’s amended design, prompting a fresh review of earlier punitive actions.

Overview

  • A MANIT professor appointed by the Madhya Pradesh High Court reported the rail overbridge’s turn measures 118–119 degrees, not 90 degrees.
  • The expert told the division bench that the bridge was built according to the General Arrangement Drawing issued by the government and amended in 2023–24.
  • The state government asked the court for time to rethink its decision to blacklist the architectural firm M/s Puneet Chaddha.
  • The court directed that copies of the report be shared with all parties and scheduled the next hearing for September 17.
  • Earlier, a five-member state probe cited poor coordination with the railways and improper pillar spacing, after which two firms were blacklisted and seven PWD engineers were suspended.
