Hazardous Magnetic Ball Kits Sold on Walmart.com Recalled

Consumer Product Safety Commission warns of potential health risks if magnets are swallowed, citing previous hospitalizations and deaths.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled a toy sold on Walmart.com that contains small, powerful magnetic balls due to the potential hazard they pose if swallowed by children.
The toy, named the Relax 5mm Science Kit, contains 216 multicolored magnetic balls that exceed federal standards for magnetic strength.
If ingested, the magnets could clump together or attach to other metal objects, leading to potential perforations, twisting, blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and even death.
Between 2017 and 2021, an estimated 2,400 cases of magnet ingestion were treated in hospital emergency rooms, and seven deaths related to the ingestion of hazardous magnets have been reported.
The kits were sold by Joybuy Marketplace Express, a unit of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, and as of the recall announcement, the kits were no longer visible on Walmart.com.
