Overview
- Officers responded around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday to a report of an armed man on the 29000 block of Mission Boulevard in Hayward.
- Police say the suspect crouched behind a parked car and pointed a pistol at arriving officers before they exited their vehicles.
- Three officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire, and no one was struck.
- Officers arrested 40-year-old Jaime Mejia Lopez, who was treated for a minor thumb injury and booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on three attempted murder counts and unlawful firearm possession; he is held without bail with arraignment set for Friday.
- Internal Affairs and Homicide/Major Assaults investigations are active, the Alameda County District Attorney has been notified, and police requested tips to Detective Scinto at 510-296-7176.
