Hay Loads Close A14 Westbound in Two Separate Incidents

Diversions are in place with normal traffic on the Suffolk stretch forecast around 11am.

Overview

  • Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said several tonnes of hay bales caught fire on a lorry near Bythorn between J22 (Brampton) and J13 (Thrapston), closing the westbound carriageway.
  • National Highways reported the Bythorn fire would keep the road closed for some time and advised drivers to allow extra time, re-route or delay journeys.
  • A separate incident closed the A14 westbound between J39 (Kentford) and J38 (Newmarket) from around 5am after a shed load of hay bales blocked the carriageway.
  • Suffolk Police and National Highways crews are clearing the Suffolk obstruction, with specialist equipment required due to the quantity of hay and delays of about 30 minutes reported near Kentford.
  • Diversions include a hollow-circle route via the A1(M) and A605 for the Bythorn closure and a local route via the B1506, A1304 and A142 to rejoin at J37 for the Suffolk closure.
