Hawaiian Woman Fined $40K for Disrupting American Airlines Flight

Cayla Farris sentenced to prison and probation, barred from commercial flights without approval after threatening crew and causing flight diversion.

Cayla Farris, a 29-year-old woman from Hawaii, has been ordered to pay nearly $40,000 to American Airlines for causing a disruption on a flight last year.
Farris used profanity and threatened the flight crew and passengers onboard during a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu on Feb, 13, 2022, causing the crew to be unable to continue their duties.
As a result of Farris's behavior, the captain chose to return to Phoenix, causing several other flights to be rerouted to Hawaii.
Farris was sentenced to 3.6 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation, during which she will not be permitted to travel by commercial aircraft without prior approval.
Farris pleaded guilty to interference with a flight crew member on Sept. 12, 2023.
