Overview

• Family members requested a welfare check before deputies discovered the 3-year-old’s body inside a vehicle registered to her mother in Milford on Aug. 9.
• Kelly Brown, 40, was located near the scene early on Aug. 10, arrested and booked into the Penobscot County Jail on a manslaughter charge.
• Investigators from the Maine State Police and Major Crimes Unit North have joined the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing inquiry.
• The child’s remains have been sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
• Brown remains detained awaiting a preliminary hearing at the Penobscot Judicial Center and it is still unclear why she traveled from Pennsylvania to Maine.
