Hastings Water Outage Eases After Burst Main as Recovery Continues

Southern Water reports service largely restored, with storage levels still rebuilding.

Overview

  • About 100 customers in TN34, TN35, TN37 and TN38 reported low pressure or loss of supply on Christmas Day after a burst main north of Hastings.
  • Southern Water said very low reservoir levels during refilling and a brief power outage at the Brede Water Supply Works contributed to the disruption.
  • The burst pipe repair was completed late morning on December 24, and both supply works were later described as running well.
  • By Boxing Day afternoon, the company said supplies should be running as normal and it closed the Pelham Place bottled water station, though it cautioned reservoir levels will take days to recover.
  • Teams delivered bottled water to Priority Services Register customers, with 4,295 planned deliveries and over 58% completed, and advised that temporary discolouration or odour can occur as service returns.
