Hashikui-iwa Light-Up Begins Oct. 31 After Trial Run

The once-a-year display uses LED color changes with projection mapping to showcase Kushimoto’s nationally protected rock pillars.

Overview

  • Organizers conducted a trial lighting on Oct. 30 to test the setup ahead of the public event.
  • The illuminations run Oct. 31–Nov. 2 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., using roughly 100 light fixtures to color the rocks and the sea surface.
  • Projection mapping decorates the adjacent roadside station building as timed hues shift across the water.
  • Hashikui-iwa is a nationally designated natural monument; the light-up began in 2004 and was recognized as a Japan Night View Heritage site in 2017.
  • Temporary parking will be available at the roadside station, Hashikui fishing port, and the nearby beach, and officials ask visitors not to shoot photos from the national highway for safety.
