Haryana Unveils 2.10 Crore Sapling Drive Bolstered by Drone Mapping and Conservation Incentives

A new pension scheme will reward guardians of trees over 75 years old with annual stipends to bolster long-term conservation efforts.

  • After surpassing its Phase 1 goal by planting 1.87 crore saplings, Haryana is now aiming to plant 2.10 crore saplings this monsoon season under Phase 2 of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign.
  • Plantations initiated by the Forest Department will be geo-tagged and monitored via annual drone mapping with growth tracked for up to five years.
  • The Pranavayu Devta Pension Scheme provides a Rs 3,000 annual stipend for caregivers of trees over 75 years old, and Rs 1 crore has been disbursed to guardians of 3,800 trees so far.
  • Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has appealed to every family to plant at least one tree during the monsoon season to reinforce community participation in conservation.
  • The Forests and Wildlife Department released booklets on ‘Herbal Vatika’ and nature trails to promote eco-tourism in Morni and established herbal parks across districts to conserve medicinal plants.
