Haryana Police Open Murder Case Against Ex-Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and Razia Sultana in Son’s Death

A purported pre-death video alleging family threats spurred an SIT-led probe focused on forensic results plus digital records.

Overview

  • An FIR dated October 20 was registered at Panchkula’s Mansa Devi Complex station under BNS Sections 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy), naming Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana, Aqil’s wife, and his sister.
  • Aqil Akhtar, 35, was found unconscious at his Sector 4 home on October 16 and declared dead at Civil Hospital, with no initial suspicion of foul play and the family claiming a drug overdose.
  • The case followed a complaint by neighbour Shamshudeen Chaudhary, who submitted an August 27 video in which Aqil alleged an affair between his father and his wife and claimed a family conspiracy against him.
  • Police have formed a Special Investigation Team under an ACP to conduct a scientific probe, sent viscera for forensic analysis with results expected in two to three months, and are examining social-media posts and other digital material.
  • Mustafa has denied any wrongdoing, described his son as a long-term drug addict, and alleged political motives behind the complaint, while police stressed that an FIR is an investigative step and not proof of guilt.
