Haryana Orders Formation of District Committees to Aid Poor Prisoners
The initiative empowers district magistrates to identify eligible inmates for bail or fine relief under central SOPs.
Overview
- ACS Dr Sumita Misra has issued state directives for immediate rollout of the Union Home Ministry’s Support to Poor Prisoners scheme across all districts of Haryana.
- Each district will set up an Empowered Committee led by the district magistrate and including judicial, police and prison officials to assess and facilitate financial assistance.
- Committees must appoint nodal officers and may collaborate with civil society representatives or probation officers to ensure timely disbursal of bail and fine relief.
- Deputy commissioners have been instructed to submit detailed compliance reports within 15 days to track implementation and accountability.
- Prisons Department and district authorities will conduct regular committee meetings, prison visits and awareness drives to maintain accurate beneficiary records.
