Haryana Marks Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th With Marathon and Yatra Ahead of Kurukshetra Finale

State-led events across Haryana are building toward late-November gatherings in Kurukshetra.

Overview

  • A sacred procession set out on November 8 from Rori in Sirsa after an ardas attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the first of four yatras planned across the state.
  • Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar flagged a youth marathon in Karnal on November 9, with hundreds in the 21 km and 10 km races and about 61,000 participants in the 5 km run, according to organisers.
  • The four processions are scheduled to converge in Kurukshetra on November 24 for an all-faith conference, followed by a grand congregation on November 25 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as chief guest.
  • The government announced heritage and institutional steps tied to the observance, including a Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Study Chair at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, job provisions for one member of 121 Sikh families affected in 1984, and naming a new medical college in Yamunanagar after the Guru.
  • Officials framed the commemoration around the Guru’s defense of faith and human rights and highlighted his historical journeys through present-day Haryana, noting more than 30 related sites preserved as pilgrimage gurdwaras.
